The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, H. E. Harriet Thompson, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP on Monday, 3rd March, 2025.
After the exchange of pleasantries, the High Commissioner indicated that the United Kingdom views Ghana as a strategic partner and would support it in every way possible.
She stated that there were opportunities for both Ministries of Foreign Affairs to collaborate on technical issues. She informed that although the UK had cut its Official Development Assistance budget, this should not affect the bilateral assistance agreement in place.
Discussions primarily centred on efforts to deepen bilateral relations and collaboration between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
In his remarks, the Minister mentioned the impact of happenings in the global system on economies such as Ghana’s, informing that achieving economic growth was the government’s priority.
He mentioned that the Ministry would be approaching the High Commission soon to discuss a Labour Export Agreement.
He expressed the government’s appreciation to the United Kingdom for the continuous support in fields like Counter Terrorism, Defence, Security and Human Rights.
The meeting ended with both sides committing to work together to enhance the already strong bonds that exist between the two countries.
