Kumasi, Ghana – Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, has assured Ghanaians that the government will repeal Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462 within 120 days, as promised by President John Mahama.
Speaking on JoyNews PM Express on Monday, March 10, he dismissed claims that the government had failed in its fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey. He argued that it is too early to judge the administration’s performance, as it has been in office for only two months.
According to Dr. Mohammed, the repeal process started immediately after his swearing-in. The Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General received the official request early on, and the Ministry of Environment later signed and returned the document for further action.
“The bill may go before Parliament as early as this week, depending on the schedule,” he stated. He reassured the public that the government remains committed to keeping President Mahama’s promise within the 120-day period.
