Ofori-Atta Seeks Virtual Session With Special Prosecutor

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has asked the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to allow him to appear virtually for a scheduled interrogation today, June 2, 2025. He cites ill-health as the reason for his request.

Frank Davies, Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), explained that Ofori-Atta is not in Ghana and will miss the in-person session initially agreed upon. His legal team has officially informed the OSP of this change.

Davies added that they have submitted relevant medical records to support the request. The team has also notified the Human Rights Court of the situation.

Ofori-Atta was expected to meet the OSP today. The session was part of efforts to address his ongoing legal disputes with the office.

On February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared him wanted. The declaration relates to four high-profile corruption cases. The OSP described him as a “fugitive from justice.”

Ofori-Atta disagrees with this label. He considers the declaration unlawful and has challenged it in court. On March 15, 2025, he filed a motion asking the court to block the OSP from calling him a “wanted person” or “fugitive.” He also wants the court to order the removal of such statements from the OSP’s social media platforms.

The Accra High Court will rule on the motion on June 18, 2025. The OSP is opposing the request.
