Parliament Probes:Daughter of a Murderer-Jab at Zanetor Rawlings

Ghana’s Parliament has initiated a formal investigation to identify the Member of Parliament (MP) responsible for making a derogatory comment against Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle. The comment, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” was made during a heated debate on February 4, 2025.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, apologized to Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, her family, and the chiefs and people of Anlo State, describing the situation as “regrettable” and “dishonourable.” He condemned the behavior as unbefitting of a sitting MP and reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to maintaining decorum and dignity.

The investigation aims to hold the responsible MP accountable for their actions. Speaker Bagbin warned that if the culprit does not come forward within a week, harsher sanctions will be imposed once they are identified.

The incident sparked outrage among MPs, with many condemning the remark. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings is the daughter of Ghana’s late former President Jerry John Rawlings. As the investigation progresses, the identity of the MP behind the offensive comment remains unknown, but Speaker Bagbin has vowed to ensure justice is served to uphold Parliament’s integrity.
